Operated by a local non-profit association formed in 1992, the centre oversees recycling for the City of Brooks and County of Newell which includes Duchess, Rosemary, Tilley, Patricia, Rolling Hills, Scandia, Gem and Lake Newell Resort.
The new facility brings efficiencies to recycling the region’s waste. An increase in storage capacity and the ability to load and unload simultaneously affords valuable flexibility in obtaining the highest returns for recycled product. For example, when the price of cardboard drops, it’s stockpiled until prices are more favourable.
The new 24 hour facility was designed to be user-friendly with more drop-off windows lower to the ground, no more steps to deal with and a spacious parking lot to allow recyclers to back up their vehicles comfortably. What’s more, the centre allows seniors and others who may struggle with breaking down boxes to drop them off whole.
